Recruiting, consulting and management services firm Hudson Highland Group Inc. announced Feb. 22 that its board of directors terminated Jon Chait as chairman and CEO, effective immediately.

Mary Jane Raymond, executive vice president and chief financial officer, will serve as interim CEO. Richard Stolz, the lead outside director on the board, has been elected chairman.

Chait previously announced last December that he would retire at the April 28 shareholder meeting. However, last week he told the board he wanted to stay on as CEO and chairman and asked it to halt the search for his replacement.

Instead, the board voted for Chait’s removal, having lost confidence in his judgment, Stolz said.

Stolz said the board has made significant progress in its search for a new CEO and expressed confidence in Raymond’s interim leadership.
