Goodyear Commits to Hiring 1,000 U.S. Military Veterans

During a July 27 media event at Goodyear's corporate headquarters in Akron, Ohio, the tire-maker said it plans to hire 1,000 U.S. armed forces veterans over the next three years through its partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Hiring Our Heroes program.

The Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign, which launched March 28, aims to find jobs for 500,000 armed forces veterans and military spouses by year-end 2014. The program plans to host 400 hiring fairs in 2012 alone.

Steve McClellan, president of Goodyear's North American Tire unit, joined representatives from the U.S. Chamber and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve to officially launch the hiring initiative. McClellan signed a statement of support for the Guard and Reserve on behalf of Goodyear.

"Our long-standing relationship with the United States military began in World War I, and as the largest producer of military tires in the United States, Goodyear products still play an important part in keeping our armed forces rolling," McClellan said. "Additionally, we support the military through our charitable contributions such as the Goodyear Gives Back program, which generates support and donations for the Support Our Troops nonprofit organization. We're proud to build on generations of support by committing to a goal of hiring 1,000 veterans over three years."

During the event, Goodyear also reaffirmed its commitment to support employees enlisted in the National Guard and Reserve.
